I’ve been in Ethiopia for nearly two months now. My last race was the Tour of Norway. It’s been really good to be home with friends and family after a busy start to the season. So far this year I have raced in Gabon, Malaysia, Taiwan, Italy and Norway before going to home to Ethiopia. After Norway I took ten days off the bike. I then started preparing for the Ethiopian Championships and was training here at home in Makelle at high altitude. I am working very hard and was very happy with my performance in the championships. I will definitely wear my country’s flag proudly on my back once I start racing again.
I am looking forward to racing in America. We are doing Tour of Elk Grove and the Tour of Utah. I am especially looking forward to Utah because it’s high altitude and a hilly race, which should suit me. So I am looking forward to it and preparing myself physically and mentally. Before the championships I was training with some of the local riders here in Ethiopia. After the championships they’ve taken off but the level here is really good. They can ride with me for three to five hours with no problems. I’ve been doing intervals with them too and they are really strong.
I am not sure if I will be doing World Championships yet but I am really hoping that I can take part this year. The route is really hilly too and perfect for me so I hope to speak to our federation soon. The season has been a dream for our team and we have big goals to finish the year with strong performances. When I write my next blog for you, I hope it will be after some good results.
