Andreas comes from a family of cyclists, as both his parents were bike racers. His mother owns a bicycle shop in Cologne and he describes his family as “cycling crazy”. Andreas says if he were not a professional cyclist, he would be writing children’s books.

Andreas joined Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung in 2013 to be compatriot Gerald Ciolek’s leadout man in the sprints. The two riders are best friends and the partnership has proved a very successful one. Andy also uses his experience to mentor some of the younger riders on the team. Andreas has often had to take the responsibility on of being the protected sprinter at the last minute and has impressed with a number of top 10 placing’s in 2014. Andreas showed his experience at the World Ports Classic where he finished 5th on the GC after cleverly winning a few bonus seconds. When not cycling, Andreas enjoys the beach as well as skiing and hiking.
