Hailing from Eritrea, Daniel is a product of the UCI World Cycling Centre. In 2012, he become the first African rider of colour to complete a Grand Tour in the Vuelta a España. Daniel also formed part of the MTN-Qhubeka team that raced the Vuelta a Espana in 2014 as well.
Before turning professional, he spent time as a stagiaire at Cervélo TestTeam. While Daniel was in more breakaways than one could count in 2014, his most notable result came at the Tour of Luxembourg’s final stage when he sprinted to 3rd behind Andre Greipel and Matti Breschel. While Daniel has always been good on the hills, his time trialing ability also improved drastically in 2014 and the new season looks to be one of great opportunity for the Eritrean.
