Adrien discovered his love for cycling after taking part in the Tour of Rwanda as an amateur. He was 16 years old and borrowed an old bicycle from a relative and finished the race in third place with minimal training which led to him falling in love with the sport.
In 2012, Adrien realised his dream of racing in the Olympic Games. He was the flag bearer for Rwanda at the opening ceremony and finished the Mountain Bike cross country race, becoming the first black athlete to do so. 2013 proved more frustrating for the Rwandan when he was diagnosed with DVT in the beginning of the year which forced him out of competition for the majority of the season. After a season of European racing now in his legs, Adrien is ready for a big season in 2015. He is a good climber who prefers tour riding over single day races. He has completed the ABSA Cape Epic six times.
