Edvald Boasson Hagen has won the Norwegian national time trial championships for 7th time in his professional career today. The silver medal went to Andreas Vangstad (Sparebanken Sor) and Truls Engen Korsaeth (Team Joker) picked up the bronze medal.

Edvald would put in a commanding performance over the 49km course today as his average speed of over 46km/h was good enough to ensure he finished 2’16” ahead of his closest rival. Edvald missed out on competing at the 2014 championships due to injury and so the Norwegian star was really motivated to win back the Norwegian national time trial jersey today.

It would be a bit of a long wait from the time Eddy crossed the line until victory was confirmed though as there were still a number of riders who were still out on course after Edvald had finished. Defending champion Reider Borgersen (Team Joker) was the last rider to start today and so once he came home well off the pace, it was confirmed that Edvald would take home the gold medal.

With the Tour de France starting with a 13km individual time trial, Edvald will be able to show off his national colours on the 1st stage of the Grande Boucle in just over a weeks’ time.

Edvald Boasson Hagen – Rider
I am really happy to take the win today. I felt good on the course so to come away with the jersey is great, especially as we are going into the Tour now and I will be able to ride in the Norwegian colours once again. I’ve still got the road race on Sunday now before the Tour. It will be a special race as we are racing in my home town but there will be more competition on Sunday than we had today. Guys like Alexander Kristoff will be there and it is a hard course but I look forward to it.
