Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) won the 4th stage of the Tour Des Fjords, making it his 2nd victory at this race after his stage 2 win. In the sprint from a select group, Kristoff was able to get the better of Magnus Cort (Cult Energy) and Sondre Enger (Sparebanken) on the line. Kristian Sbaragli from Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung crossed the line in 30th position as part of the first chase group, 12″ behind the front 15 riders.
It was still a good day though for Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung as Jacques Janse van Rensburg formed part of the days 6 rider breakaway. Janse van Rensburg rode strongly in the break and contested for all the intermediate sprints with the hope of winning a few bonus seconds and moving up on GC. Unfortunately the break was reeled in with 26km to go and with the pace being on, Janse van Rensburg was distanced on the final climb after spending 140km in the break.
The final km’s were run at an extremely high pace with a number attacks coming from the peloton. The finishing circuit had to be completed 3 times with a climb that was a lot tougher than originally anticipated. On the final climb Kristoff forced a move of 15 riders clear and with most teams represented in the move, there was no real organised chase from behind. In the end Kristoff reigned supreme.
