In a rather uneventful day at the Coppi e Bartali, Elia Viviani (Cannondale) was the fastest in the sprint finish. The Italian beat Ben Swift (Team Sky) into 2nd place and Rino Gasparrini (MG Kvis –Treviso) finished 3rd.
The early racing started off with a group of 18 riders breaking away from the gun. Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung had representation in the break in the form of Ferekalsi Debesay. The large group were never allowed too much breathing space though as Sky and Cannondale were intent on setting up the stage for their sprinters, this constant chase resulted in a really fast stage run at an average speed of 48.7km/h.
The break was reeled in with 30km to go and the rather non-technical circuit provided no further opportunities for riders to attack the peloton, bringing the stage to the bunch sprint finish.
Riders will now take on the final challenge of this years Coppi e Bartali when they start the 10km individual time trial tomorrow.
