Preview: Giro del Appennino

The Giro dell Appennino gets underway today with the riders leaving Novi Ligure and heading on a 192km journey to Genova. The Italian UCI 1.1 race incorporates 4 big climbs including the famous Passo della Bochetta, measuring 7.8km’s in length at an average gradient of 7.3%. Just that single climb alone is enough to ensure that it will be a climber of sorts who should take all the spoils at the line today.
Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung will be sending all its “lightweights” to battle it out on the Italian climbs with Louis Meintjes and Merhawi Kudus heading up the squad after both riders enjoyed some success over the weekend at Tour de Suisse and Route du Sud respectively. Joining Meintjes and Kudus will be Jacques Janse van Rensburg, Dennis van Niekerk, Tsgabu Grmay, Daniel Teklehaimanot and Kristian Sbaragli.
This race will be the last race for the majority of our riders before they take a well deserved mid season break so the motivation is high to get another good result before some down time. Racing gets underway at 11:00 with the finish expected to be around 16:00. You can follow race updates on our twitter feed.
